Clean Green!

Image of a woman holding a wicker backet full of cleaning products and flowers. For most people, the cupboard under their kitchen sink usually houses a myriad of chemical heavy cleaning and household products designed to tackle any task that may arise.

While many may shift dirt and grime, they are not very kind to the environment. Recent reports have also linked household chemicals to an increased risk of childhood asthma which is as good a reason as any to bin them. This doesn’t also mean binning your household hygiene however. Good old fashioned white vinegar and baking soda can tackle most of your household tasks without putting the environment or your health at risk.

Vinegar is a natural anti-bacterial and you can make a powerful all purpose cleaner by mixing one part with nine parts water in a spray bottle. If you are worried about the smell add some lavender essential oil to the mix .Vinegar can cause pitting on some marble products but other than that this is safe to use anywhere. For a natural furniture polish you can mix 1/4 cup white vinegar, and some lemon essential oil with 1 tablespoon of oil. It’ll clean your furniture a treat and smell delicious.

Baking soda meanwhile is a natural abrasive agent which also acts as a deodoriser and is gentle enough to use on any surface. Simply sprinkle it onto the surface you wish to clean and scrub away. To clean your toilet simply pour a cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl and leave it to sit for around half an hour. Then spray it with the all purpose vinegar cleaner and scrub with a toilet brush. For drains pour baking soda followed by white vinegar down the drain. The chemical reaction will clear away any gunk or residue in your pipes. You may need to do this a few times. Rinse the drain with boiling water afterwards.

Safe to use around animals and children and kind to the environment changing your cleaning regime to include these products will also save you a fortune making it a total win win.
